Ice Skating and Music and Shopping, Oh My!

Baby, it’s cold outside. Brrr! Like real peaches, the Picky Peaches aren’t big fans of frosty weather, but we do understand that it makes some people want to go ice skating! Fortunately for you, and thanks to the folks at the Ice Rink at Sugar Hill, you can enjoy this wonderful, wintery activity from now until January 29, 2017.dsc03691

Have An Ice Day Rinks has opened the largest outdoor ice skating rink in the southeast in Sugar Hill, Georgia. dsc03667Located at the Sugar Hill Town Center, which includes a beautiful new copper-trimmed City Hall and the Sugar Bowl Amphitheater (http://thebowlatsugarhill.com), the ice rink is a fun way to spend an hour or two.

Good music and nostalgic disco balls enhance the festive atmosphere, creating a fabulously jolly time for your family! If your children are unsure of their abilities on the ice, there are Zimmer frames available. (Sorry, adults aren’t allowed to use them.)  Non-skaters can relax in a comfy Adirondack chair by one of the two fire pits on the paved courtyard outside the tent.dsc03668

There’s a snack bar serving hot chocolate, hot apple cider, hot tea, soft pretzels and nachos when you need some warmth. However, since the ice rink is, literally, a stone’s throw from Sugar Hill Bakery Café, we strongly encourage you to eat there before or after ice skating. (Please see last week’s blog post regarding this amazing place.)dsc03683

The ice rink is located at 5039 West Broad Street, Sugar Hill, GA. Check the websites at icerinkatsugarhill.com or haveanicedayrinks.com for hours or call 770-554-7506. Purchase tickets online. Admission: Adults – $12; Children under 8 – $10. Group discounts available. You can even reserve space for birthday parties.dsc03684

OK. Maybe you don’t like to be chilly or maybe you never learned to ice skate, join the club! Luckily for you, Queen of Hearts Antiques & Interiors has a store in Sugar Hill and it’s perfectly situated just off I-985, next to Hobby Lobby.10689885_10152682728031460_5897703550773118168_n Even if you don’t collect Blue Willow china, Fenton glassware or vintage Shiny Brite ornaments, Queen of Hearts is sure to have something you want. These people clearly go out of their way to display their wares in the most creative way possible. We’ve visited all three of their locations and we’re always impressed with the variety of merchandise and the helpfulness of the staff. Queen of Hearts Antiques & Interiors, 4125 GA Hwy. 20, Buford, GA. Hours: Monday – Saturday 10 – 6 p.m. ; Thursdays open late until 8 p.m.; Sunday 12- 6 p.m. http://queenofheartsantiques-interiors.com/15078628_10154692494411460_8954585156181383819_n

*Clarification: Some places in Sugar Hill previously had a Buford address. That’s why Sugar Hill Bakery Cafe and the Ice Rink at Sugar Hill both have Sugar Hill addresses and Queen of Hearts Antiques & Interiors has a Buford address even though they’re very close to each other.dsc03658
